Leaving a Goodly Heritage

As women, whether we are a mother, wife, sister or friend, we all have the same calling, to leave a good heritage to the next generation of believers after us. We must not take for granted the struggles that our sisters in the Lord went through to preserve a goodly heritage for us. What is a heritage? The dictionary defines it as this; something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth; an inherited lot or portion: and also something reserved for one.
We take it for granted and in some respects we pretty well spit in their faces when we go and "liberate" ourselves just for the sake of selfish lusts. Throughout time, christian women and men suffered at the hands of the pagan and at the hands of the religious crowd. Scorned, beaten, unfairly tried and punished. They suffered fates that are hard to put into words. In all their trials, they stood for right, knowing that they were preserving the faith of those to come after them. They held fast to the teachings, they held fast to the laws of the scriptures they were taught for generations before them even.
It is one of the most selfish acts to throw away the heritage we have just to save face or not look out of place in today's society. We don't stop and think of the lives of hundreds of thousands of men and women that died just so we can have a bible. We don't think about the real sacrifices that people made in the first few centuries. Heaven forbid we look, act and dress like a consecrated people before the Lord! God commanded Israel to dress in a manner that was unheard of to those countries around them. They were a strangely dressed people to them. They were persecuted. We think it's persecution if someone looks at our clothing and says, "Why do you were clothes like that?" We think it's just the hardest form of torture to stand up and be counted as one of God's own.
We compromise and cower so we don't have to be different. Our heritage is becoming corrupt and it is evident in the generations that are coming up today. They are a generation void of feeling and discretion. Often it is asked,"How did things get this way?" The answer is simple. We've done it to ourselves. The good news is, we don't have to let it keep going! We CAN make a difference, we CAN re-establish our roots and show the next generation how to stand up for their Lord and not be ashamed of His name. Mark 8:38 - Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
We need to raise up a godly and righteous generation. It's our time to correct the mistakes of the past and raise up a generation that won't flinch, falter and be ashamed of the name of Jesus Christ. We need to set the example and make it known that we are chosen of God, that we are different and that we are proud to be different. 2 Timothy 1:8 - Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; We will be held accountable for what we do with our heritage. God will look at how we either upheld his name or stomped it under foot. If you were given a multi million dollar inheritance would you shred it up and dump dirt all over it? Or, would you take care of it and do with it wisely? We need to look at our christian heritage the same way. We need to make sure there is something worth leaving to our next generation. Psalms 16:6 - The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
