Why This Nation is in Trouble

It seems that this nation [insert country name here] is in deep trouble, descending down the slippery slope of social and intellectual decline with each passing day.
It was very interesting, to use a kind word, to see the news broadcasts through out the last week or so. While the situation in Iraq becomes ever critical; while individuals' rights are being violated all over the world- in free countries as well as those that are not; while economies gain and suffer; while wars and rumors of war escalate; and while the forces of evil strive against the forces of good and morality, all that was highlighted and sensationalized on the major news networks as well as the local channels was the demise of Anna Nicole Smith. All that was debated about during coffee breaks and next to the proverbial water cooler were the virtues, or lack thereof, of Anna Nicole Smith.
While it was certainly tragic that a young woman passed into eternity at such a young age and under less than desirable circumstances, it is not something that was worthy of twenty-four hour coverage and constant 'breaking news' alerts by the major and allegedly dignified news networks. It was certainly not the most important news item of the week. It was perhaps mildly significant at most. But the way it was reported and the way it was eaten up by the public you would think it was as important as the assassination of a head of state. Meanwhile, important information, like the fact that the mass shooter in Utah that was killed by the police that same week was a Bosnian Muslim bent on carrying out Jihad against the U.S. was completely ignored.
Oh yes, we know, it's the liberal media. It's the media that is mostly controlled by the leftists and the socialist agenda, right? Well, let us not forget the old proverb: "There is no master where there is no slave."
As long as we the people are inclined to be the slaves of sensationalism and entertainment gossip; as long as we continue to idolize those in the entertainment world instead of admire and respect those who are in the ministry of serving their country in office or otherwise, we will continue to be slaves to ignorance and indifference. Our youth will follow our example and continue the decline of this society. This once-great nation will become as the old Roman Empire- a remnant of the past. Something romantic to discuss in some history class of the future. There will be a point of no return and we are fastly approaching it. Let us remember, as a whole, that old omenous proverb in the Bible: "He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

Yep, good article, we in general are a lazy, spoiled self indulgent society that only seems to be interested in gossip and flash-pan stories. Ignoring the fact that our house is astride railroad tracks and a train is speedily approaching..
