Only The Rich and Powerful Are Free
By Ray Perdue
It has long been held as conventional wisdom that the rich and powerful can get away with any crime, including the most heinous of murders. We could discuss cases going back to well over one hundred years ago, to tomorrow’s headlines. If you are a common person who has come by great wealth, whether by playing sports, stumbling across the Comstock Lode, writing the great American novel or becoming a famous actor or singer, you can always use your wealth to get you out of a bind. Other wealthy notables, who have little or no political clout, have purchased their way out of prison, or at least to a cake walk term. A few however, angered the powers-that-be so much that they have faced the ultimate penalties for their crimes.
The powerful also have an easy time. During the years of the Clinton administration, it was often said that there was one law for the Clintons, and another law for the rest of us. That maxim applies to any of the powerful elite—Bush, Clinton Rockefeller, etc. It happens so often, that it is increasingly obvious that in today’s America, only the rich and powerful are free. The rest of us are their serfs, and if we attempt to live accordingly to what we think are the laws of freedom and liberty, as outlined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, we are hammered by the powerful.
On Monday President Bush announced that he has decided to commute the prison sentence of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby. An Associated Press report on Tuesday stated that the White House has refused to rule out an eventual pardon for Libby. That’s typical.
The Democrats were all up in arms of course, because if they had been there and it had been their man then they…would have done the same thing. It is humorous to listen to Hillary, Obama, Biden, et al, make their ludicrous statements regarding Libby’s commutation. It’s all politics.
On the “other side of the aisle”, Republicans were equally angry at Bush, but for not going far enough. They expressed that Bush should have granted a full pardon.
While Scooter gets to walk away, and will probably get a pardon in the future, there are at least three men rotting away in prison—men who do not deserve to be there. Those men have committed no real crime, only ones that agents of this administration have concocted for political gains.
Ignacio Ramos, Jose Compean and Gilmer Hernandez are serving time in prison, much more time than the unfortunate Scooter Libby would have served. The only thing these men have done is to commit the dreadful crime of protecting America and US citizens from the international lawbreakers known as illegal aliens.
There have been petitions sent to President Bush and Congress asking that these men be pardoned, all to no avail. Rep. Duncan Hunter of California has even introduced a bill into the House of Representatives calling for the pardoning of Ramos and Compean (Hernandez had not be sentenced at the time of the bill’s introduction). However, most in Congress are too cowardly to even think about supporting it. Instead, they would rather complain that Bush didn’t go “far enough” in protecting one of their cronies. Who cares about a Border Patrol agent who’s job it is to protect Americans! Congress and the President care more about the millions of illegals streaming into the country than they do about the legal US citizens.
So, Mr. President, why not pardon the Border Patrol agents? Is protecting America and her citizens too horrible of a crime to even consider?

Very good article here. Author has put into words what we all none elitist have known. I agree and have sent a scathing Email to the President and my Representatives in Washington DC asking all to revisit the need to pardon Our Border Guards Now. I urge all readers to do the same...
It's time to take back our country. Amnesty was a shoe in according to Sen. Kennedy and the President. Washington got a wake up call from the Nation opposing Amnesty so much so it shut down the phone systems in Government offices. Amnesty was kicked to the curb by Senators who heard the outcry against it. We need to do the same thing with the injustice to these two Border Guards. We need to let Washington know that we demand justice for these men especially in light of new information that some evidence that was presented has not been substantiated. What's good for "Scooter" is good for real victims of injustice. The Senate Committee on the Judiciary will be
holding a hearing to examine the prosecution of Ignacio
Ramos and Jose Compean on Tuesday, July 17 beginning
at 10 a.m. I suggest we flood Washington with phone calls, faxes and Emails calling for a Pardon of these men on this date.
