Somedays, I just wish someone would make a decision and make things better. The only problem with that idea, as it applies to politics, is that people have different views of what is better.  When I was young, two men being together as sexual partners was a shameful thing. I still think it is shameful. Yet, in this 'modern' age, the matter is discussed in our national capitol. In those long ago days, it would have been unthinkable to kill a child either born or unborn. Now, there is an endless attempt to seperate the two into one being right and the other wrong.  We read the Bible in school, nowadays, children know more about drugs than they do the ten commandments. Thinking has changed.

Who does all this thinking?  Actors get sick and suddenly stem cell research is the most important issue. Politicians take a look and decide to do something just because they like the person. It is sad that they are sick but the needs of one do not do away with the needs of another. I think life is a very basic need. A woman decides that she does not like what the Bible tells her to do and so she decides the book is worthless to everyone else. She talks the loudest and so our courts decide she must be right.

I remember the sixties and seventies. I do not think everyone was frying their brains in those days but a lot of people were. Drugs have strange effects on peoples brains. Denial seems to be a primary result. Those people had children and are now grown. The effects linger on their children. In order to justify casual living, it was necessary to somehow take away that which told them what right and wrong was and is. They could just say 'I want to go sin.'  So, the idea was to cry discrimination and seperation of church and state or some other slogan.

In all the efforts, what is right remains the same.  Time has changed peoples thinking and the political landscape and language but it has not changed what is right. I know of only one cure for what ails our people. There must be a national revival of respect for God. Then, there must be a recognition that sin is sin regardless of the tag placed on it.  I was not around during the Great Awakening but that is what we need.

About the Author

I'm Milton Southerland. I am a little retro by today's standards. I'm pretty country too. I don't like the way our country is headed but I'm too old to do much about anything except keep my own space in order. I write a blog which I hope to live long enough to get through the Bible. It is called 'Old Old Story.' I think heaven will be a fine place and the company there will be amazing.
