I'm am going to attempt to approach this subject from just a little different angle than most. Most will tell you that legalizing prostitution will do the following.
Make it safer for both prostitute and clients in terms of crime.
Make it safer health wise
.
Take it out of the streets and neighborhoods.
Free up police to battle real crime.
Help to separate prostitution from the drug world.
Take away the stigma from women and men who sell sex.
Allow a person who works as a prostitute to seek other employment
in their future without being stuck with a criminal record.
And the list goes on. So from here on I may be a little blunt but I cannot approach this without telling it like it is. So here goes. Citizens of the United States are the biggest hypocrites there is, I believe. We deny the obvious. Ask anyone in public if they watch porno films, search out sexual oriented websites, believe in legalizing prostitution or any other admission of their participation in the enjoyment of sex, and most will deny they partake of the pleasures. Yet the porno industry is very much alive and well in America, Porno films, books, magazines etc are secreted out of stores, and delivered in plain brown wrappers by the truck loads. Most will not admit it but the Internet got its start on the back of porno sites and still thrives today. So we are hypocrites, let us admit it. Oh, I forgot to mention, I don't even want to hear from the religious right on this, they have enough dealing with pedophiles in their clergy. And remember the Native American saying,
"The white man, I know him, he spreads his religion, and syphilis"
So now that we all admit at least to ourselves that we all enjoy sex to some degree and form, let us move on to my arguments in favor to legalizing prostitution. We are smothered in an Ad campaign of what to wear, how to smell, what to eat, how to look, how to loose weight, etc, etc.... For what, to look SEXY.... Skimpily dressed women and men are used in our ads to show the ideal sex look. The acceptable look... Clothes are modeled on women so skinny they appear to be anorexic but this is the acceptable SEXY look.. The men models look like the try outs for a Superman Movie, again this is the SEXY look.. So we have a population of Ugly people desperately trying to be SEXY as defined by EVERYTHING around us. We do have people in this system of sexiness that fall even lower. The really ugly people, the ones we tell jokes about putting a bag over their heads type stuff. You know, the ones you woke up next to, but you were drunk and they looked good last night type of ugly.
Sex is Sex, love is love, the needs of man are air, water, food, shelter, acceptance and sex.. take any one away and the person will die or have behavioral problems somewhere down the line... Prostitution gives acceptance and sex to those who have a VERY hard time finding a date let alone being allowed to have consensual sex with anyone... Admit it, when you think of dating, you do not dream of dating UGLY PEOPLE even if you is one... Prostitution allows one to pick a SEXY partner of your dreams and have at it...
My father was a police officer in a small NE Oregon town which had a lot of construction going on in the area in the 1950s. We had a whore house in town that the construction workers who had flooded into town used nightly. Ya, some local men married or not also visited it. The women from around town, mostly from churches got together and basically run the whore house out of town. Sexual assaults were not a problem in this small community while the whore house operated, once it was closed down sexual assaults on women and children mostly of high school age rose dramatically. You do the math... Prostitution is an outlet for those who otherwise have no or very limited means of having consensual sex. Now for the argument that prostitution breaks up families, well let us be real honest here, first we have to admit that men are sexually driven animals, two, women know this and use it to their advantage, three, women for the most part will use sex to control the behavior of their men. You know what I'm talking about ladies, like ya never cut your man off until bla, bla, bla happens. Some married men in this situation will go else where for it.. Most men will rule out RAPE, and those that turn to a prostitute will not be wanting another controlling girlfriend, he just wants sex... Those who get involved in an affair are doing so for other reasons like a sexual triumph and/or of a more intimate nature. If I were a women, I would rather my man look to a prostitute than have an ongoing affair with a neighbor somewhere in town. At least I would know the act of sex is all he is mostly after, not a relationship....
I do have to say that prostitutes are people and they each bring skills to their job, some are very good and are used by psychiatric professionals in helping people with intimacy problems. So in a nut shell I'm saying that prostitution fulfills a need of society, it has always been so. It is as they say the oldest profession, and it is a profession...
I advocate legalizing prostitution under guidelines similar to this:
All prostitution is to be out of a house or Motel type establishment.
This establishment must be outside city limits.
This establishment will provide medical checkups for STDs weekly on service providers.
By law condoms are to be used in acts of penetration, any penetration anywhere, you do the math.
Establishment will provide its own security service.
Establishment will do drug test along with STD checkups on service providers.
Establishment will provide health care and retirement plans to its service providers.
Establishment will be limited by law as to its cut of income to the house.
Establishment will provide to its service providers on going training on human relationship
topics given by a physiologist at least once per year.
The comedian George Carlin put it very well: "Selling is legal, and sex is legal, so why isn't selling sex legal?"
Arthur Hoppe wrote about consensual acts in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1992: "The function of government is to protect me from others. It's up to me, thank you, to protect me from me."
Alan Soble noted, "The freedom to choose one's reasons for engaging in sex is an important part of sexual freedom."
Thomas Jefferson and other founders of the U.S. envisioned a society where people can live without interference from government, provided they don't harm others.
The United States would be better served if the police and court systems would directed their efforts away from the activities of consenting adults and toward preventing and solving real crimes involving clear victims and injustices.

Well before I had read this article I had a different opinion on prostitution. This article has many good reasons to legalize prostitution. After it stated the guidelines the job would have, I now agree about if it was legalizing it. For me that's not a good job, but if that's the way people want to live there life and there career then more power to them!
My comment for Prostitution would be to clean it up. At least make sure there no more on the streets, limit to sell sex. I think it shouldn’t be mind as long as the prostitutes have mandatory check up and we make sure the drugs are out of it. Have a separate housing for them to sell the sex but without the drugs, violence, police, and all being involved. Some would call it a whore house or use other references but oh well, the women and men would be taken care of better and they could make it as a business option only starting as a certain age. We wouldn’t have to worry about young girls getting sold nor have most women die from drug and abuse or etc. I know it looks disrespectful to young women and calling them out of name but it will be there choice. If it causes a threat to the marriage than the wife/husband better look into the other spouse’s opinion and communicate which most marriages lack of besides intimacy. Plus it’s something more wrong than just their sex lives. We will give them consequences/limits to whom, where, when, and how they can sell the image they are aiming for. Like the author said, “It doesn’t make a difference to if you pay for dating and sex or just the sex period”, because one of them you get what you pay for and it’s less conversation.
