We take it for granted that the Lord loves us. Yet, in His wonderous love for us, he doesn't hold it against us that we don't keep the commandments. He's left his commandments to guide us to do right. Is this right of us as children of God to say we love Him but not obey him? No, Christ said, if ye love me keep my commandments. He didn't force us he just said, if. John 14:15 - If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Do our actions portray the love we say we have for our heavenly Father? Chances are if we really examined our walk with the Lord, we'd find out just how short we come of really showing Him how much we love him. Do our actions towards our husbands, our children, our friends and family showing the love that He stated we were to have towards others?
Exodus 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 13 Thou shalt not kill. 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 15 Thou shalt not steal. 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
That's an awful lot to swallow some days. When you think about, is that really so much to do for a God that loved you enough to send his only son to die for your sins? It is amazing that something so simple as obeying a few rules will make us turn our nose up at God and his love simply because we don't want to follow guidelines in our lives. The Lord tells us in Matthew 19:19 - Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Those are the two greatest of the commandments. Loving others as yourself is something that can pose a bit of a challenge. It is in our nature to love ourselves and not want to give to others as much as we are supposed to.
Keep in mind, always, that the greatest form of worship you can give God, is showing him how much you love him. How do you do that? Keep his commandments. When you look at what he gives us for guidelines and what he commands us in His Word you realize that just keeping those things is a form of the greatest worship you can give Him. If you love the Lord, show him!
Through your actions, through your determination to keep on the right path, you are showing God just how much you love him. What are some ways today you could work on really showing God just how much you are determined to LOVE him back? Most importantly, have you accepted His free gift of salvation first? Have you come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ? Without first being a child of God, it is imposible to serve him! Make sure that's taken care of. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; nothing we do will ever earn us our salvation. Titus 3:5 - Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Last but not least Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Make today a day that you show God just how much you love him, and what he's done for you!
