I Can't Believe It!
Daniel 3:19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated. 20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. 21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 22 Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. 25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. 26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire. 27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them. 28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
Many of us, if we are honest with ourselves, will tuck our tails and run at the first sign of adversity. There are many things one can do when faced with adversity that seems to be bigger than life. For some, they pout, kick their feet in the dirt and throw a fit blaming God for putting a roadblock in their life. Others mourn for themselves. They sit and wallow in self pity and make the situation worse. Some, which seem to be few and far between, will look the problem in the eye and trust that the God we serve will bring us through the danger unharmed as in the account of the three Hebrew boys going into the fiery furnace.
When we fail to see God as God we feel that defeat is close at hand. That God couldn't possibly do the impossible. We put limitations on what God can do by our lack of faith and belief that he is the ALMIGHTY, that he is the Lord God of heaven and earth. Mark 9:23 - Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Jesus said it best, all things are possible to him that believes. That's where we fall short when we pray, we pray to God asking him to do marvelous things, but are we praying, believing that God will do it? God asks us to just believe, it really isn't hard to do. If you've trusted in him as your Saviour, you've already taken that first step, you believed in the Son of God to save you from your sin and to save you from eternal punishment. If you've been baptized by immersion, you have showed the world that you believe in saving power of the Son of God, in his death, burial and resurrection. So why don't we believe when we pray to our Lord? What causes us not to believe that a God that created heaven and earth can't take care of a worry or problem that we've created or that we face?
Sometimes we need to be as the father of the child in Mark 9 and ask the Lord to help us with our unbelief. If you struggle with believing, just ask the Father to help you. It's so simple, yet in our human ways, we try to over complicate the matter and make it seem to ourselves that a simple answer can't possibly be the right answer. My prayer for you today is that you will overcome your unbelief in whatever area it may be in and that you would believe that our God is truly the Lord of miracles and will get you through your times of need.
