Despite your continued assertions that our Founding Fathers intended to protect the fledgling government from radical Christianity through a doctrine of Separation of Church and State, it is an unavoidable fact that Thomas Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptist Association, from which this axiom was excavated, seeks to assure the Baptists that religion would be protected from a radical government, not the other way around.
I know what you’re up to when you attempt to present the concept of global warming, ozone depletion and environmentalism as an issue of morality rather than of stewardship. Once they enter the arena of morality, their underlying premises are immune to historical fact or evidence. They ultimately become statements of faith, heralding the beginning of a new religion ready to anoint apostles, appoint elders and accept converts.
I know what you’re up to when you attempt to convince people that you are somehow a nobler person if you can put the faith aside while making decisions concerning their government only to claim after the election is over that you live by faith. Those who live by faith know that government is the vessel through which a state commends the moral and punishes the wrongdoer and the faithful rely on their faith to know the difference.
I know what you’re up to when you encourage people to believe that they are entitled to their pay when they have not done the work necessary to earn it. An employer may perceive the value of an employee to be such that he will pay her during holidays, vacations or even childbirth but you create enmity between the two when one believes it is owed to them.
I know what you’re up to when you encourage the passage of legislation that directly impacts the ability of a parent to rear a child as he sees fit. Encouraging legislation that allows a 15 year old to get an abortion without the consent, or even the knowledge of her parents does not protect a child. It endangers her by keeping information about a child’s behavior from the parents who could otherwise prevent something worse from happening in the future.
I know what you’re up to when you convince women that they are exercising their right over their bodies rather than murdering an innocent baby. Women, do not have the right to be free from the unwanted consequences of a physiological process any more than they have the right to be free from weight gain due to overeating. Additionally it is difficult to conceive of a right whose continuance requires the continual sacrifice of innocent human beings.
I know what you’re up to when you put forth the notion that gay people should have the same rights as straight people to marry someone they love. Of course straight people have never had that right. Everyone has the right to marry someone of the opposite sex. How they may feel toward that individual is irrelevant. What gay people want to do is make a life long commitment, based on affection, to a person of the same sex. Why is it so important to you that an institution that is so different from marriage carry the same name?
I know what you’re up to when you tell people that targeted tax cuts are more effective than tax cuts for everyone. As long as you can keep people arguing between the efficacy of targeted tax cuts over universal tax cuts, you never have to address the question of why it was ever a good idea to legalize governmental theft in the first place.
I know what you’re up to when you say that the rich are getting rich on the backs of the working class. Such statements absolve a person from examining the actions, preparations, work ethic, and schooling of those earn more money. Of course once you remove from consideration all the attributes that make one person more successful than another, your argument seems reasonable.
I know what you’re up to when you continually focus people’s attention on what they don’t have. One of the best ways to incite anger and resentment among a group of people is to show them things they don’t have and convince them that the reason they don’t have them is that there is a group of people out there whose only reason to get out of bed every morning is to deny them what they want.
More importantly I know what you’re up to when you put forth assertions like those made by the Jesus Seminar and The Da Vinci Code. Of course all of your assertions lead to a number of new questions most salient of which is that if Jesus was not the individual who he claimed to be, if the accounts in Matthew’s , Mark’s , Luke’s and John’s Gospels are not accurate, what reason is there to crucify him? If he were simply a good teacher, a good father and a good man, what justification could there be to put him to death?
I know what you’re up to when you seek out individuals who lack sufficient knowledge to refute the thoughts, ideas and suggestions you put into their heads. I’ve watched you prowl like a lion looking for those whom you may devour by convincing those who walk in darkness that a fallen people has the ability to create a heaven on earth through the omnipotence of government despite their spectacular failure at every attempt.
No, your method of deception has not changed since you first encountered them in the garden when you convinced Eve that she would be like me if she ate of the fruit. Of course you were less successful when you tempted my son in the desert. Unfortunately your efforts have not been deterred but you are being exposed.
