When Is A Fence Not A Fence?

Well it appears that the 700 mile border fence between the U.S. And Mexico has been passed by the U.S. Senate and has been signed by the President. Now the congress can go home and tell their constituents that they were tough on immigration. Regardless of the fact that for six plus years they have systematically ignored the issue completely. Now thats bi-partisanship at its best. The two major parties are in lock step when it comes to ignoring the security of our borders. The issue after all, is about security. Despite all the special interest groups that want to make it a racial issue.
People who are in favor of securing the border have been called everything from racist to xenophobic. I call them patriots. If it were not for Jim Gilchrist and Chris Simcox, the founders of the Minutemen, the border issue would have likely been swept under the carpet for another six years. These men and the others that joined with them to form the Minuteman, kept the heat on congress by keeping illegal immigration in the news. After our politicians saw the ground swell of support that the Minuteman gained they could hardly ignore illegal immigration and border security any longer. The American people standing together on this one issue forced Washington to take notice and take action.
But while Republicans and Democrats were pulled kicking and screaming into the illegal immigration and border security debate, there was another political party that has been in favor of securing our borders all along. That party is the Constitution Party. They have been the one party that has called for a fence to be built as well as for the enforcement of our current immigration laws. They have also called for the enforcement of laws that fine companies who knowingly employ illegal aliens. You can learn more about them on their website at http://www.constitutionparty.com .
Now that the bill to build a border fence has been passed it will be interesting to see if we actually get a real 700 hundred mile physical fence. Here is what the President said on wednesday “The bill I sign today includes nearly $1.2 billion in additional funding for strengthening the border, for new infrastructure and technology that will help us do our job. It provides funding for more border fencing, vehicle barriers, and lighting, for cutting-edge technology, including ground base radar, infrared cameras, and advance sensors that will help prevent illegal crossings along our southern border. That's what the people of this country want. They want to know that we're modernizing the border so we can better secure the border.”
It makes me wonder if our Government intends to replace the physical fence with ground based radar and cameras, or do they plan to use it in conjunction with the fence. Time will tell. I'm sure the Minutemen will have their eye on this for the duration. I do think that there should be some kind of oversight into how this money is spent. It would be prudent to make sure that we were not spending that money on $5,000.00 light bulbs or some other silly item.
I say spend it all on a fence, and by all means please don't stop at 700 miles. If 700 miles of fencing is good then 2000 miles is better. Our politicians Shouldn't wait for a dirty bomb to go off in one of our major cities to see the wisdom in that. The American people need to make sure that we continue to make our voices heard. Shout it from the roof tops. Secure our border!

that fence still isnt going to stop anybody, if they even build it, we still need police out there to patrol the fance and enforce the laws.
even if we do build it, it isnt going to stop anyone from getting over. we still need border patrol and people willing to enforce immigration laws to stop it. plus why didnt they build that fence a long time ago?
I think that the lilttle fende would be good but it really has to do wit the security of the border because they will always fin da way to get thur
i think that spending all that money on a fence at the border is stupid its just gonna raise our taxes and not matter what people from oother countries will still be able to come to the united states. this fence will only be blocking mexico but people will still get around it there is always a way to get around things and this is just gonna be a waste of money
Who ever asked the people what they wanted? No one thats who, they pass laws that effect us as well and yet they tell us its handled. If the Government is supposedly trying to build a fence after six years what took them so long to make things know to the PEOPLE.
I feel that a fence isnt enough because its not that hard to get passed a feince and it also dosnt work all that well i fell that they should change there standers and let them come over here as long as they didnt consist of any felonys or of any crime but they should be limited or else the us would be over populated so i can see y they kinda do it and it would also make it harder for us to feed everyone and would probly make us a poor country then
Although your commentary is pretty extreme in its argument and scope, I agree with with most your major points. Both Republicans and Democrats have failed to fully address the border situation, and middle-class Americans will continue to suffer until they do. However, the Constitutional Party is in no way the answer. Even though they may represent the ideals shared by most Americans in regards to the border situation, they do not have the money or power to be anything more than a voice in the crowd.
And additionally, a fence is no solution to this problem. We need to address the root issues of Mexico's economic and social woes before anything can be done to stop the flow trying to escape those same issues. To address the issue of how the US is directly affected we need to either toughen current laws against employers that hire illegals or make an example of someone who knowingly does so to deter others who would follow. I am also concerned how the new Federal Minimum wage will affect this tide of illegal immigration, and doubt passing it was a prudent action in the middle of this crisis.
After reading this article I feel that instead of wasting your money on fences and more hi tec. You should make a program for illegal immigrants that already live in America so they can become addapted to your customs.
A fence. Wow. On one side of our country, we have a huge statue greeting foreigners, asking them to bring their hungry, their tired, and their weak. On the other side, we have a fence. How hypocritical. I have been proud to wave my American flag, but now, I must state that this brings me shame. There are more illegal immigrants fighting for our country overseas than there are minutemen who are willing to serve their country in the same manner. It is too easy for them to stand at the border with a gun and shoot at someone who is, essentially, fighting for the same ideas that most citizens in our country are--providing the best for our children. I don't see too many Minutemen, however, welcoming our troops home and thanking them for protecting their rights to shoot and unarmed, harmless people. A fence is unrealistic and should be spent more wisely. If it was logical, it would have been built a long time ago--around the Statue of Liberty, too.
Wow....a fence. Is it electric? No...probably not. A fence will not keep anybody out. Getting our own military to help control our borders will. Deporting all the cry-baby "illegal aliens have rights" people even better. With them out the picture the government can only hear the voice of the LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZENS.
A fence won't keep immigrants out, unless its electric! (boogie, woogie, woogie!)
Building all this technologically advanced material and putting it into play on this issue is a waste of money. It will slow the economy down, raise taxes for a time being and nothing will change. It will only make crossing the border a little bit more difficult.
I believe that a fence doesn’t make a difference. It is just like a crib around a baby sometimes it just doesn’t work the way you thought it would, such as a lot of things in life. Plus there is a fence there now people will starve themselves just fit in between the bars or they will climb it.
It is true a fence alone does not stop illegal entry into America. It is also true that with no fence the entire border is easy to cross at will. It is true that we need the Border Patrol in addition to the fence.
It is also true, if we "do nothing," we invite disaster.
Sooner or later, because we have done little or only the minimum, a serious terrorist will easily walk across the unguarded border and blow something up.
We lock our front doors not with the knowledge they will
keep everything and everyone out. We lock them because they "DETER" entry. We lock them because the noise or effort required to get in through that locked door enables us to call the cops & have the criminal stopped.
There is no "one" solution to our immigration issue. But refusing to do anything, is amounts to suicide.
If we need to demand something besides a fence (which really is needed & is cheaper than the financial costs of another 9-11), we need to demand our government address "REAL" immigration reforms.
DHS is broken. It has been the major obstacle to an efficient, expedient system that processes LEGAL applicants with respect, dignity, and speed.
Amnesty as some call it, failed to slow or even to resolve the immigration crisis. Every past amnesty has only led to even more illegal entries.
Yet many sit & wait for legal forms to be processed by a DHS that can make people wait as long as ten years.
Lets demand REAL reform & not the currently proposed pandering legislation that makes the greedy profiteering corporate giants happy! Because once existing illegal aliens are legalized & can then demand to be treated fairly w/o fear of exposure & deportation by their greedy employer, those same corporations will encourage MORE illegal entries so they have more to exploit with lower than real wages, little or no benefits, and/or unsafe working conditions.
The "people" in America are being played by both sides of the very public debate on this issue. The people suffer, and the aliens suffer, but greedy corporations profit, along with the socialist hucksters who seek political power & not social gains.
The Mexican government is a mess. It has been for decades. Corruption, has become systemic. Even top officials of that govt. admit their nation is so fraught with corruption, they fear it can never change.
Americans has poured many millions of dollars into Mexico, yet that govt refuses to reform its failed socialist policies. Why? Because the elites running the show control power & wealth. Their corruption has kept many Mexicans poor for generations. America needs to demand Mexico reform itself & stop sending people here to relieve the social pressures in its own country.
Mexico has deflected the attention of its people from its own mismanagement for too long. Its time the people of Mexico know they are being used by their govt who encourages illegal immigration so money is sent back to prop up the failed socialist state the govt runs there.
Why is it America can run a democracy, a free market financial system, have laws, courts, police, etc., and succeed, but others cannot?
The answer is failed forms of govt that have always failed, but been the favorite way socialists on the left love to oppress and control the people.
The Soviets tried communism & the system failed. Socialism has been tried all over the world, yet only a few of those govt's have done any better than average.
Perhaps its not us who should change our way of govt so others feel we are running America like them, and those folks adapt the American way? Maybe they are wrong & not us?
Maybe we have been told by America haters for way too long we are wrong, when in fact anyone can duplicate what we have done, IF they adapt democracy & free markets.
There is no reason others cannot do what we have done, except they try to do it with methods that have historically failed.
But the power hungry want no reform that takes them out of power in those failed states. Those in power have that power & the money so why talk about democracy & allowing people to prosper from their own efforts?
Every nation that embraces our way, even if they only try 60% of our way, begins to succeed. Look at Latvia or other former Soviet Baltic area states who have adapted free market tactics & have kept taxes low. Many of those nations' economies easily out pace even the well established French. And they do so in less than ten years.
So why is it the America haters say we are wrong?
Because they want power & wealth, at the expense of the freedom of the people to be individuals. They want good little socialists who tow the party line & do as the govt they want tells them to do!
Our current system is not perfect, but its significantly less oppressive than any of the alternatives we see or have ever known!
Lets stand up for America & our way. Lets tell others to join our methods, or wallow in their own self created misery!

Isn't it funny, we have WELCOME door mats at our homes and yet we lock our doors. We would call the police if a home invader was found in our home yet some of us howl at the thought of securing our borders. Some above are embarrassed because we have a statue inviting immigration and want to build a fence to secure our borders.. I bet this person leaves their doors unlocked all the time right.. The key here is LEGAL IMMIGRATION not ILLEGAL INVASION.. There is a deference... Nothing is broke about our immigration laws that have been refined over many decades with several influxes of immigrates. The problem is the purposeful disregard by politicians and our judicial system to enforce those immigration laws and laws against hiring illegal workers. Why, MONEY, that's right MONEY.. Money saved by cooperate America in having a pool of low wage workers. Don't think so, check your news of the illegal workers taken into custody at a sweat shop being paid 3rd world wages and being charged for taking to long in the restroom while working.. This was not in a 3rd world country, this was right here in the good ole USA.. Money that's what it's about, Politicians who turn their support away from upholding current immigration laws and laws against hiring illegals have Increased support from both Cooperate America and Illegal support groups.. Money, that's what it's about. Through all the smoke and mirrors of the politicians that's what it really about.
They don't care that 3 to 9 thousand citizens are killed annually directly by illegal aliens in homicides and car accidents. They don't care that Insurance cost have increased directly from illegals drawing on Insurance cost... They don't care that taxes have to be increased to cover supporting illegal aliens use of social services and incarceration cost..
THEY DON'T CARE as long as they get THEIR MONEY... None of these negatives affect Cooperate America nor the Politicians who have Government retirement and Health care.. But it does benefit them in increased revenue. They gain while middle and lower class wage earners pay the price.. When we yell to loudly they then call us racist, "We hope that the voices of hatred and bigotry will silence themselves for this debate..." (Sen. Kennedy)
According to Kennedy You are a Bigot if:
You believe that 12-20 million illegal aliens who violated United States law by sneaking across our border should not be rewarded with a path to American citizenship
If you're frustrated by the fact that politicians in Washington won't enforce our laws and secure the border
If you believe that the laws of the United States should be respected...
Think about this, would you leave your doors unlocked.. Does your WELCOME mat include a welcome to burglars and rapist.. If not then join in supporting border security and demanding those who come hear do so under invitation just as you demand in your own home..
A fence is a fence. The fence does help to an extent, but we still need border patrol out there just in case. I have been to the border there are people hanging about by the fence and trying to get over, that’s why we still need border patrol out there as well as a fence.
if they build a wall their just going to waste money because immigrants are going to find another way to cross it
I doubt an actual fence will be put up until something terrible happens like another terrorist attack. And whose to say they wont sneak their way into our country through the border down south? It really is a shame we have George Bush as our president...
the fence is helping but by little. the government need to hirer people to watch for them trying to get over it at that point that will should't let anymore get in they kill our people more then some wars we need to keep them out
The idea of building a fence I think is idiotic. The fence may stop some people from making an effort to come over but mostly its not going to do much good. I think we need to figure out another solution to this problem. We need to make a better effort, scare them out if we need to but the things we are doing now are solving anything.
A fence may help secure our borders, but views on the subject need to change as well. It's not a physical wall we need to build but a mental one against the conquences of being caught.
I feel if we are going to ignore the fence that stands now, and illegal immigrants are getting past still then the best solution is to make a big fence and/or wall that is harder to get over or under so we dont have to worry about it. It seems like we cant patrol the fence enouph so why even worry about it. I feel a big wall that is twice the height of the one standing today and made of a thick concrete like substance then we wont have to complain about the few illegal immigrant that do get past, over, or under. I feel you must become a United States citizen if you don't want to deal with trying to sneek over.
a fence is never going to work who ever thought of that is stupid we need to put a twenty foot concrete wall up then that might might stop them from comeing over
The fence is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Its like 5 feet tall and it is not maintained. No wonder why they keep coming over. Better Security is what we need. I think we should have Border Patrol Snipers and take each individual out that cross's the "Line" (forget a fence, cause they need to learn). If we do that we can scare them to not come over. Period.
I agree with the person above me!
Amen to the Boarder Patrol Snipers!
and land mines!
I agree with all them but can we at least electrify that thang zap them mo foes as they jump on dat fence
DOWN WITH WHITEY
why dont you and your buddies chase a quarter back down to mexico and we'll call it a mexican jail break
hahaha man you guys are supa stupid! in that case, why not build a great dome over the whole country to keep everything out, thats a good idea right, we dont need anymore people to help develope the land. Labor isnt scarce right, so we should stop everyone from coming into the country! its not like its what makes the economy flourish or anything, haha you guys kill me
WHAT ABOUT THE BLACK PEOPLE?
WHERE DID THEY COME FROM?
AREN'T THEY IMMIGRANTS TOO?
no because we leagly owned them few years back
