What's Wrong With Illegal Immigration? By John Eberhard

There has been a great deal of controversy recently about illegal immigration, which was initiated by Congress's considering several bills attempting to reform the area.

Latinos in the Los Angeles area have been protesting, waving Mexican flags, students have been cutting school, and various politicians have been weighing in on the issue. Teddy Kennedy made a speech recently, which compared the issue of illegal immigration to earlier civil rights struggles by blacks and women. In other words, he was saying that illegal immigrants have a right to come here illegally and efforts to limit their illegal immigration are an infringement on those rights. Other immigration supporters have chimed in with this line.

I've decided to weigh in on this issue. There are a couple of things wrong with illegal immigration.

The Problems of Non-Assimilation

Since the United States is the most prosperous country on Earth, it is a privilege to move here. It is not a right. Trying to compare illegal immigration to earlier civil rights struggles is ridiculous.

The United States has, as does every country in the world, a right to limit immigration and control immigration. There are a variety of reasons why the US and every country has this right and should have this right.

One reason we have the right to limit the number of people who immigrate here, is because we want to make sure they assimilate to our culture and way of life. There is, naturally, a limit to how many people could assimilate into a country at any one time.

Why do we want them to assimilate or why do we have the right to demand that they assimilate?

First of all, we have a tradition in America where people moving here from other countries have assimilated; they have learned the language, learned our laws, become citizens, paid taxes, and so on. We have never required them to leave their own customs behind, but we do require that in general they become part of the group here. And you'll notice that despite many different peoples here with many customs and backgrounds, most Americans get along pretty well. The last major civil strife occurred 141 years ago.

There is a phenomenon that has been observed in some countries, which some smart person has named "Balkanization." "Balkanize" is defined by the Miriam Webster Online Dictionary as "to break up (as a region or group) into smaller and often hostile units." The term comes, of course, from the Balkans, the countries occupying the Balkan Peninsula; Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Yugoslavia, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, & Turkey. You may have heard of a lot of fighting and unrest in that region over the past 15 years, based largely on differing customs, languages, ethnic hatreds and so on.

We have also seen a Balkanization effect in Canada, where the French-speaking people of Quebec have tried several times to secede.

We are seeing a definite Balkanization in France, caused by large-scale Arabic immigration in recent years, and by the French government foolishly permitting the Arab immigrants to set up isolated enclaves where police aren't even allowed in. This recently erupted in full-scale riots in Paris.

Now in America, with massive amounts of illegal immigrants, most from Mexico, we are seeing a true Balkanization effect. The bilingual educational program has allowed the youth of this group to continue to speak Spanish and not to learn English. And how many times have you called some company you deal with and heard "for English, press 1..."? Many companies have worked hard to court the non-assimilating Hispanic population, and in so doing have made it easier for them to be here. Some banks are now even giving home loans to illegal immigrants.

Many of these people have no intentions of assimilating to America. They aren't learning the language, learning the laws, or becoming legal so they can pay taxes or get a driver's license. Some are even staying here only temporarily so they can send money home to family in Mexico (no wonder Vincente Fox wants things to stay as they are).

If you look at past generations of immigrants to America (mine from Germany in the early 1900s), and the way those generations adapted to life here, it is totally different from what the current illegal immigrants are doing. The current illegal immigrants, most of them from Mexico, have no respect for our laws, our customs, our way of life. Note that recent demonstrators have been waving the Mexican, not the American flag.

Several authors have written books recently on this Balkanization of America and how this alone could potentially destroy the country.

Many illegal immigration advocates say that any hostility towards illegals is a symptom of racism. I saw a column in the paper recently that made that claim. What they are not willing to confront is that Americans have played by the assimilation rules for hundreds of years, and that it is actually natural to feel hostility towards someone who comes in, breaks the law, doesn't play by the rules, doesn't learn the language, and has no respect for the country or the system. And collects $5-6 billion in free services per year in California, paid for by his taxes (see the next section).

Welfare - The Monkey Wrench in the Works

The second major problem with uncontrolled illegal immigration (along with non-assimilation), is welfare benefits for illegal immigrants. Welfare benefits for illegals creates a drain on the economy, and it attracts the wrong type of person to come to our country.

You may recall Prop 187 from 1994 in California. This proposition would have stopped all welfare benefits for illegal immigrants in California. At the time these benefits added up to over $3 billion per year. In the 12 years since then this figure has probably doubled. Prop 187 was passed by 59% of California voters, but was ruled unconstitutional by one liberal judge. I still don't get how it is unconstitutional to say that people who come here illegally from some other country, and aren't US citizens, shouldn't get free benefits - to the tune of $3 billion per year. But that's liberal judicial activism for you.

So in essence, we are being told by liberal judges that we HAVE to give illegal immigrants free welfare benefits (including health care, free education, etc.). Even in California which has been on the verge of bankruptcy for the past two years. So we can't afford it, the people don't want it, but we are forced to do it.

Then, in the face of that, we have people protesting because we want to limit the flow of illegal immigrants coming here. So we have to give them free benefits, we can't take those away, and according to the protesters, they have a right to come here and we have no right to tell them they can't or limit the flow. How many things are wrong with that?

In addition, it seems extremely obvious that welfare benefits for illegals forms an alluring carrot to attract millions more to come. And what type of person would be attracted to come to the US to receive free benefits? Is it the type of person who would work hard and help build the community? Or is it the type of person who would be a parasite on the community? We are told by the illegal immigration advocates that these people just want to work. If that is so, then why can't we take away the free welfare benefits? If someone wants to work then why does he need welfare benefits?

Clearly, the illegal immigration advocates are being disingenuous (i.e. dishonest) in the way they are promoting the issue and in the reasons they are giving. Clearly, part of their goal is the old Marxist story of socialist re-distribution of wealth.

How the Parties View Illegal Immigration

Neither party has really tackled the issue of illegal immigration solidly or honestly.

The Republican Party has stayed away from better enforcement of the immigration laws, it is reported on radio talk shows, because they view illegal immigrants as a cheap labor source. Apparently top Republicans feel that having a "cheap labor source" is good for business, especially certain industries such as agriculture.

In case, you haven't followed the issue, "cheap labor source" is a code phrase for "we don't have to pay them minimum wage." In other words, since these people are in the country illegally, and they are hired under the table and paid cash, they can be hired for less than minimum wage.

Some Republicans have been saying that illegal immigrants will "do the jobs that Americans won't do." I don't buy this, period. I consider it an insult to Americans.

On the Democratic Party side, we have people like Teddy Kennedy saying that illegal immigration is a "right" and that this is a civil rights struggle. Getting past the point of how ridiculous this is (it's like saying some stranger has a "right" to my wallet), my bet is that their true motivations are twofold: a. They see that block of 11-12 million illegal immigrants, if they give them enough welfare giveaways, as natural future Democratic Party voters. b. It's part of the old, tired, Marxist idea of redistribution of wealth, meaning they want tons of immigrants to come here illegally so they can take yours and my tax money and give them all kinds of welfare, and

In the face of this we have the Senate working right now on a compromise bill, that is basically a guest-worker amnesty. Lots of Senators are insisting that it is not an amnesty, but let's face facts. It removes the major penalty that is currently supposed to be imposed on someone who comes here illegally, which is deportation.

The other problem with any proposal of this type is that there is no way to enforce it and no real incentive for the illegal immigrants to come forward and go through the new steps being proposed; pay a fine, learn English, get on the track to citizenship, etc. If we don't have enough manpower now to deport illegal immigrants (we deported 200,000 last year) then how would we have enough manpower to enforce and manage this new, complicated guest-worker amnesty system?

Recent polls show on amnesty show differing amounts of support, from about half the population to be against any kind of amnesty, to 99% against amnesty.

Summary

Unlimited, large-scale illegal immigration is a problem for several reasons:

a. These people are not assimilating to US culture, not learning the language and not becoming citizens, setting up a Balkanization effect that is already in progress.

b. It's an economic drain because liberal activist judges are forcing us to continue to give illegal immigrants free welfare benefits. So while those that work do contribute to the American economy, they don't pay taxes but do receive free benefits and so are by their nature a drain on the economy.

c. The bill coming out the Senate is an amnesty, which is unwanted by a large segment of the American population, but the Senate doesn't seem to care. Politicians on both sides seem terrified of angering legal Hispanic voters. Plus there is no way to enforce the bill and no incentive for illegals to conform to it.

The Solution

After all the above you'd think the solution was complex. It's not. It comes down to two points:

1. Crack down on enforcement of laws against employing illegal immigrants. A few high profile busts will have a chilling effect on the employment of illegal immigrants nationwide. This doesn't require any new laws, just enforcement of existing ones.

2. Simply discontinue all welfare benefits for illegal immigrants nationwide. This will require new legislation at the national level.

Once illegal immigrants can't get a job and can't get any more free benefits, there will be much less incentive to come here, because, after all, it's probably easier to be unemployed in Mexico than it is here. Certainly it would be easier than to live in LA which has some of the highest housing costs in the nation. You won't even need a fence along the US/Mexico border, because you would have removed the incentives to come illegally.

And doing the above will put more pressure on Vincente Fox to get his house in order in Mexico, which is why he is so against any change in the status quo relating to immigration.

Unfortunately, I don't see much political will in Congress to really handle this problem.

But you can do something. If you agree with this article, do the following: 1. Send it to your friends. 2. Send it to your US Senator, and say "I agree with this. No amnesty!" 3. Send it to your US Representative, and say "I agree with this. No amnesty!" 4. Send it to your state legislators, and say "I agree with this. No amnesty!" 5. Send it to your Governor, and say "I agree with this. No amnesty!" 6. Send it to your local mayor, and say "I agree with this. No amnesty!"

Thanks for your support for America.

Are we not all illegal immigrants? This is God's planet anyone outside God well everyone who does not confess their sins accepting Christ as their personal Saviour is infact illegal.
God gave us different languages to cause division and yet we are getting back to one universal language.
You see its clear the devil will use and is using whatever means he can and he has the lot to keep you from getting saved, over here we have politics too Northern Ireland against the South, Britain against Ireland and yet we are all Irish but because the North is British I am also British, confusing.. not to the devil he orchestrated it, and I certainly applaud him. so before you cry about some person from somewhere else remember that day is coming when if you die without Christ then God will look at you and say you were illegal, you are illegal and cast you into Hell (with the devil)

yeah i agree that they should learn the english language but i feel that they should give them the oppertunitys to learn it.

Mar 7th 2007, by Guest
I feel that we should give them the opertunitys to learn our language but i do agree that they should have to learn english.

I believe that illegal immigration is wrong. However, when you look at the situation from their perspective, can you blame them? The legal process can take up to years to complete, and most people these days don't just have a "couple years" to try to make a living for themselves or even their families. I think that if the legal process was shortened then people wouldn't feel the need to have to come over illegally. Then everyone is happy for the most part.

Mar 7th 2007, by Guest
I agree with what you said about when people who are moving here should learn our language because it what everyone uses and is familar with. By learning ourlaws and becoming citizens they are showing they want to do the right thing and be included. Also i think since everyone is paying taxes....EVERYONE moving here should be doing the same.

davidtommons surely can't argue for us to abstain from debate over any issue that effects so many people in so many ways solely in an effort to remember how we are "all illegal immigrants" in the eyes of God.

Any issue that has the power to be so detrimental or beneficial to such a large group of both Christians and Non-Christians deserves debate, and God would surely approve.

We cannot stop immigration. is going to happen and there is nothing we can do to stop it. However we can regulate immigration to a certain extent. If immigrants want to come to the U.S. then that is fine, however the govt. of these countries such as Mexico and the U.S. should offer a program to these immigrants so they can actually be a part of this country. For example, i have no problem with Hispanic people but they need to learn English. I have one too many experiences where a Hispanic will come up to me, not know English and just start speaking to me in Spanish and I don’t understand a damn word they are saying. They lead to learn the native language of our country because not all Americans know Spanish and we should have to re learn a Lang because the Hispanic population is growing. Another issue is taxes. If they are illegal and working they don’t have to pay taxes and that is wrong because all of the American citizens working hard to make a living as well are having to pay taxes and if a part of the working population is paying taxes then how is that fair to those who are paying taxes. There are just so many issues about the illegal immigration and it won’t be solved over night. However if the govt. setup programs for these immigrants and give them the chance to get into our country legally then I have no doubt that that would reduce the immigration problem. Not solve it but reduce it and it would be a start.

What we should do is grant everyone here illegally amnesty in order to start a new. If we do grant amnesty to those who are here we would be more focus on those who have not crossed the border yet and better patrolling the borders on all sides of the U.S. not just the mexican side. Also those here illegally would have to start paying taxes which end their "free ride" here. And only give amnesty to those who have a job, even if it is under the table pay. It would benefit us more than it would them.

David, that is to say that we are all Christ worshippers? I for one am not and it is almost beligerent to say that all American's are. Sure, the soil was founded by a Christain, but there is a large diversity here in the U.S. Relating religion with immigration is absurd.

I have to agree with John on this one, I don't think immigration is such a bad idea, though keeping a close eye and control over it would be partial to the U.S.

The author makes a valid point regarding our government and illegal immigration; neither side is willing to take the initiative to provide solutions. So many people, including most on this website, have offered the same complaint that most of our population voices--they are either completely for rights of illegal immigrants or completely against immigration all together. Neither side will be able to triumph. The truth and the solution both lie in a moderate program which will meet the needs of our capitalist society while providing regulations and peramiters with the legal system. We cannot deny the fact that many immigrants are here already. If we were to try and take them away overnight, the impact would be devastating, and then everyone would be on this website badmouthing how expensive our products would become. Part of the beauty of our system is choices--you can choose to be as flamboyant or as simplistic as you would like. If our own citizens wanted jobs badly enough, then they would have gone out and taken them already. Immigrants are here because they do have the personal initiative to get and keep a job. It would be too easy to state that immigrants live off of our system--that would make your argument have an immediate solution. All of our politicians and our own citizens know that this is not the case and therefore, the solution isn't that simple. Punish people who work hard, and reward those who don't right? That's your argument. It looks like your argument is more for the other side than your own.

Mar 7th 2007, by Guest
I think that illegal immigration is a problem in our country because it takes away the control we have over the people living here. Illegal immigrants do not pay taxes, yet make money. It's not fair to the people who went through the process to become legal citizens and are now paying taxes. We need to do something to fix the problem.

Mar 7th 2007, by Guest
I agree that illegal immigrants are a strain on our economy. By not giving illegal immigrants welfare it will do two things: reduce the incentive to move here and make those who still want to live in America seek legal immigration status.

Mar 7th 2007, by Guest
I can debate on either side. This article makes a good point because illegal immigrants are having an advantage. They are getting many benefits and they haven’t worked for it. Some immigrants who have gone through all the paper work and tests have earned the right to become a citizen. On the other hand we all have come from somewhere else and we are all immigrants. Now everyone should know that you can’t stop immigration completely but you may be able to lower it at least. We all have or own opinions and we always will. The main thing is to find a common ground. I haven’t had the time and effort to think about what the common ground could be but there is one. It’s like a puzzle that needs to be solved and you can’t just look in the back of the book to find it. You have to work for it like everything else.

This is not about religion its about people coming here from a different country for all we know they could be criminals trying to get away from the law, if people would come here legally then we would not be having this problem and it not because there illegal its because are government is trying to protect us from things we don't need in this country like drugs, there’s nothing wrong with them coming here with the intent of living here and not causing trouble for the citizens that are already living here there is so many things that could go wrong but there are good things that could go right illegal immigrants have come here to live in a free country they even take the jobs that no one wants yeah they even take places were no one wants to live there trying to live just like us and get what they need so they wont be in poverty.

Mar 7th 2007, by Guest
I believe that all the government wants is anyone that wants to be here should do as they say "Do as the Romens do".

Mar 7th 2007, by misstisha
there is nothing wrong with immigration in and of itself but illegal immigration is an issue. why grant someone rights when they dont want to take the time to fill out some paper work. but dont chase them away. culture is what america beautiful. we ware so different and so diversified. in a country that prides itself on being so "together" you think we would help them get what they need ot they can get their citizenship and become citizens so they can stop hiding and go to school and get those high paying jobs with benefits that we all love, instead of those dead end under the table jobs we often see them doing.
--

Mar 7th 2007, by Guest
I think that illegal immigration is not fair others in our country who have gone through the process of getting citizenship. Citizens get paid for their work but still pay taxes. Most illegal immigrants want to come here to work, but not pay taxes. Many thoughts of this may be sterotypica when it shouldn't be thought of that way. A lot of the jobs that immigrants are payed to do, citizens don't want to do but then are complaining that illegal immigrants are "taking up our jobs." So without them, these jobs wouldn't get done and our country would not run the same. Therefore, before making any decisions of how this should be resolved, both sides should be taken into consideration.

Mar 7th 2007, by Guest
Yes I think that they should have to learn English because it is the primary language but they shouldn’t be treated like crap if they don’t already know English they are people to and how would that make you feel if you worked hard for everything you have or want and people just were prejudice of racist toward you. yes there is a big immigration problem in the united states but don’t chase everybody away i mean come one now diversity is what America is made of so give everyone the same opportunity’s

I don't understand what all the debate is about. We act like this is a whole new problem. We keep trying to color this problem Grey with no solution available.. As far as I can see it is Black and White. Our forefathers thru many influxes of immigrants set down rules and laws to deal with immigration that have worked pretty darn well over our history. Immigrants of old were proud to become Americans, embracing the culture and English language.. Our problem people is NOT illegal immigration, it is the deliberate inaction to enforce current immigration laws that have worked well for years.. The reason behind this refusal to enforce current laws is MONEY.. Money saved in wages etc by business and Money given to campaigns of politicians who are willing to color the subject GREY and perpetuate the influx of cheap labor.. And that is the real truth.. Nothing GREY about this subject... It's not about providing a better life for immigrants. Check your news, just a few days ago illegal immigrants were taken into custody who were working in a sweat shop for 3rd world wages and were fined by the employer if they took to long in the restroom.. This didn't happen in Mexico or China, No it was right here in the good ole USA.. The liberal Media didn't carry the story for long. Hmmmm

Mar 29th 2007, by Guest
I personally do not agree with John. One must not talk about subjects thety truly know nothing about. Immigrants would not come here illegally and use up welfare and hide from taxes if the GOVERNMENT would allow them the right to come over legally, however the system is so slow and people are starving and worrying about how they will feed their families and the only rational option is to come to the US illegaly since they have been denied legally and find work so that they can sustain their families. You really know nothing about hispanics and it is clearly evident that you do not like them at all! Just so you know there is proof that immigrants will do jobs Americans won't do- however insulting that may be to Americans . Why do you think they are able to get jobs? Because NO ONE ELSE will DO THE JOBS!! It is a reality you have to open your eyes to. Immigrants are like Americans- some are hard working, others lazy. Yet, most come to earn a living and if permitted legally to reside in the US they will assume responsibility as a citizen -like paying their taxes and etc.... The lack of assimilation is just a weak argument to get others to agree in racist and ethnocentric ideas! If you care so much about major issues than take a moment and go to a Central American country and you will understand why people are desperate to come here. No one is looking out for them so they have to take matters into their own hands and find a way to earn. You must learn to walk in other's shoes and think of others except yourself. I am not in any way insulting you. I just felt the need to open your eyes. Mine have been opened. I have worked in a Migrant headstart and paid home visits to the field workers and I am apalled at their living conditions. They live like ANIMALS in the land of "opportunity" just so they can make a few bucks. So I certainly approve of a quicker legalization process for immigrants so they can assume American responsibilites and everyone can see what they are really here for!

Mar 30th 2007, by Guest
This last writer says they have visited the homes of field workers was appalled by their living conditions.. So you have just made the case for the extremely low wages paid to these workers by US Employers as they know the illegal worker can say very little about the situation.. Our borders are being allowed to stay open by Greedy Politicians who are puppets to the Business Community.. We have fought through this over our history with sweat shops, low wages, union busting etc, etc and WE made it better.. So if they live like ANIMALS here in the land of "Opportunity" what have they really gained? They blow their nose on, set on, fly our flag upside down while flaunting the Mexican Flag through our streets demanding favor from the very group that has held back prosecuting them for illegal entry to this LAND OF OPPORTUNITY.. If they want what we have, why don't they do what WE DID.. CHANGE their own Country into what they want it to be.. Let them Protest and fly the Mexican flay upside down, blow their nose onto it and set on it in Mexico City.........

Although not even all North American citizens "really" speak and write English, I agree with the idea that immigrant people should learn English - and I include myself in this list. I respect this culture and I'm very grateful because here I can have opportunities that I do not have in my country, Peru. Of course I would like to have stayed there because my past and roots are there. But I came to the United States on March 2006. My parents have been living here for 7 years now. They came to the United States when I was 13 because we were going to lose our house and they couldn't afford my education - the government doesn't help there. We are legal immigrants, we pay taxes, we speak English and we are human beings as you are. We respect this culture and try to keep the USA customs and the rhythm of life. I am only 20 years old and a lot of people might think that I'm not old enough to give my opinion, but I have learned a lot living separated from my parents since I was 13. I have two jobs, one full time and one part time. I am also a full time student. I apologize for my lack of modesty but I am very intelligent immigrant woman. In my family we shouldn't be concerned about immigrant’s laws because we are legal. However, it frustrates us to see that undocumented immigrants, who do pay taxes and never receive them back are treated as animals. They do work much harder than other people and not all of them are criminals. They should be required to learn English, pay taxes and follow the rules.
Mr. Eberhard you cannot generalize that all immigrants mean a problem for the United States. We all want to be happy, so we all should respect each other. I suggest you to find the amount of money that the government receives from "illegal people" and never give it back because they do not have a social security number. People who have followed the rule at least for 3 years should receive an amnesty.

Who says it better than this:
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people"

I don't think Illegal immigrant should stay, our government should make them go back Now, many of them do not pay Taxes, its not right that our government has to build more Schools that's getting field up by non tax payers, they drive on our roads, do they help pay for road repair, and our government is going after US citizens that are behind in paying there Taxes, but at the same time our government is Rewarding Illegal immigrants for not paying Taxes, so, should we just site back and let it happen,

It does not suprise me at all that Teddy Kennedy would say, illegal immigrants have a right to come here illegally and efforts to limit their illegal immigration are an infringement on those rights. Other immigration supporters have chimed in with this line.
I still think Mary Jo Kopechne would be living today if Teddy Kennedy just tryed a little harder to save her in July of 1969,here is the web Address, read it for your self.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Jo_Kopechne )

Illegal means ILLEGAL. What's so hard to understand about that? These illegals have no idea what kind of ****-hole country we are turning into with them here. They all need to get out and GO HOME! No one wants them here. Hopefully I'll be dead by the time they come around my place. It truthfully wouldn't be bad if these illegals didn't give us all such an attitude; thinking they're better than us, calling US the trash. No ILLEGAL immigrant should be treated with equality, they're ILLEGAL... meaning NOT supposed to be here. Seriously, how hard is that to understand?!?!

Sep 8th 2007, by Guest
Yes, I do agree, Illegal means not part of the whole. They are different from previous 200 year old Mex. Immigrants. These people think we should give them our livlihood on a silver platter. How would like to come out of a store and Have a man call you a whore to your face in spanish not even caring if you know spanish. I had a mex guy try to rape me and another beat me up and tried to rip off my breast cause I would not have anything to do with him. That doesn't sound like gratitude to me . They don't work with us as a nation they work against us as an anti american leage of vermints. Sorry I used to believe in them as people ,but now I have seen too much. They work 2,3 jobs and only claim 1. One man boasted how he does dry wall and the company has paid him under the table for seven years. Wow that's showing how willing most are to abuse us and our homeland. I guess your right we are afraid to confront them . So do we have to continue allowing them to even break Gods laws of lying , stealing, aduteration. California is face with a high % of unwed mex. pregnacy as a toast to the most Macho. We need to ask God to set His foot down on the law breakers and For Him to take care of this matter....God Bless us all....

I am not an american or living in USA but i want to share my views here with our friends, Illegal immigrants are also human beings and i think we should counsider them as a human being only, yes people are working illegaly in usa why? they came there to earn some dollars for their loving ones i mean childres education, parents treatment etc, so why do american people want to send them back after all they will not stray there all the time, following are my views,
1. Give temoprady work permit to all the immigrents, make them work collect the taxes and make good Revenue for your country.
2. Give them felcaties provided to your amercian citizens.

3. Make Contract agrrement with the immigrents for five years, ten years or fifteen yers, after the expary of contract send them back home control the immigrents intering in your country.

4. let all the immigrents go for vacation to their own country and let them re enter in your country till the expery of contract agreement so that they can meet their family and become closer, till now so many wifes and husabnds are seperated because of your immigretion rules and which is agaisnt the human rights, i hope human rights should look into such matters, mothers seperated from childre, parents and getting divourced with husbands because of her long stay in usa.

so i thank american people for allowing our immigrents to work in your country but so sorry to tell you that fater or mother are seperated from their children and childred getting adicited to drug as they couldnt get their love from aprents all this are because of your immigration rules make it bit easy for those who are already there and dont now allow the new ones so these are my comments and i am soory to tell you guys that my english is not that good just to covy the message only

Or we could just enforce the laws as written. Allowing only those to come in who legally apply to do so. And then deport the ones who did not.

You have no idea how this has helped me. I just had to write a persuasive speech on immigration reform. I personally don't have much of an opinion on the subject, but I agree with you.
Thanks for the help.

In additon to my 5th october 2007, commends i would like to add the following.
1. Why USA is giving citizien to those children who are born in us to immigrents?

2. let the immigrents stay in us those are there, give them work permit and send them after the expiry of their contract.

3. do not allow the other immigrents to enter in your country.

3. I belive the immigrents are treated badly in your country some are used as sex toy, they are made to work 24 hours and paid very less which is not as per human rights and for which US is fighting in other countries, please givem them equal rights they are human being too.

4. Let them go out of your country for holidays and meet ther love ones children, grand parents, husband etc and let them re enter after the expiry of their leave which will slove lots of family problems.

5. try to settle your immigrents problem as soon as possible as it will be too complicated in coming future.

so iam hap for any commends

I say that Illegal immigrants are also human beings and i think we should counsider them as a human being only, yes people are working illegaly in USA because they came to the USA to earn some money for their loving ones, like childrens education, parents treatment, and etc. So why do Americans want to send them back after all that they do for us, like work that Americans don't want to do. It just don't make no sense at all.

i belive that immigrants are the future..because they are not only working for less money but they are
beinng abused in their jobs. i also belive that immigrants are the future because they are raseing the country that they live in..!
i think we should all st0p for a second and think about what they are doing and see if you would do the same as they are..??!!
it is really hard because they are immigrants but come on now we have to give them a chance......!!!!
just think about what they had to go through when they decided to come to America, they had to leave lots of thing behind like their families, their childhood, their home town, even their own childre just to come to America and work.
they dont come here to america because they like it they come here because they want a better future for their famili.....!!
so just please STOP and think for a second ...!! before judgeing them...some diE in their trip to America..so would you do the same..would you do the work that they are doing..?? would you leve behind your famili and your chilhood just to work...??
mmm i dont know i would think about it before talking...
so just give them a breaK...!!
o0h and also think about how they feel...when they are descriminateD...!!

I agree with you. To live in america is a previalage. You need to earn that right. People say its because they want to succed and help there families. But its just like collage. You have to earn the right into collage to help you succed u cant just force yourself to it. As the person above me said ya they die on the trip here. But if they did it the legal way would they die? NO. Yes there people to but they dont have the right to force themselfs and break laws to get what they want out of life.

I personaly dont have a problem with immigration.the reason why is because i have a ggod job that i love and yea i work with a few immigrants but they are not that bad. people always talk down on them saying that all immigrants are good for is doing shit work.that is a flat out lie.some of those immigrants that i work with do a better job than me,and belive me i do not do shit work for a job.i do think they should have to take a few english classes before they get a job but other then that i dont see a very big problem.but thats just my opinion

I agree. Illegal immigration is becoming a problem. I feel our government should deside what we as a country need to do about it, and DO IT. I'm tired of hearing about how illegals cross the border daily, yet no ones doing anything about it. Start by changing the way we make immigrants legal. Make it manditory to learn english. Show them we are the greatest country because we know what we want and we make sure we get the same thing from every body. If a law is meant for me, it's meant for them.

I do believe the Mexicans have much larger families than the WASPS so it is just a matter of time IN USA before the national language will be Spanish and do you think they will want Texas back - nope ! they will assume all the USA including the chattering politically correct within :( anyhow better the Mexicans than the MOslems

Oct 18th 2007, by Guest
the first illegal immigrant were the pilgrims. just saying...

Nov 26th 2007, by Guest
And the pilgrims built our country from scratch. So are you saying that you are wanting the Mexican Immigrants to come and take over our country? Do you want them to build their own empire on top of our American Government? If we allow them to enter our country freely then we will soon be overrun. Look how many come over here illegally. Now imagine if we open our borders or ease the authority on it...

To Oct 9th 2007 Guest writer above. You say "I belive the immigrents are treated badly in your country some are used as sex toy, they are made to work 24 hours and paid very less which is not as per human rights and for which US is fighting in other countries, please givem them equal rights they are human being too."
Who gives you the right to ask this? You come here from a country "Mexico" that fully guards it's southern border, raping, robing and killing immigrants coming from countries south of the Mexican border. Mexican law forbids anyone not a citizen from participating in politics of the country including political marches. How dare you demand that we treat you better than you treat those crossing your southern border.
Spanish is your state language in Mexico, military personel are used to look for and detain illegal invaders to your country.. You glean from this land what you can with no intent on becoming citizens. You are not immigrants you are an occupying army of takers, using our system for your own gain.
You are right that low wages are paid to illegals, that's why business here loves you all. We fought for decades to get a fair wage in this country, to be able to unionize, to have overtime paid. People died here fighting big businesses for these rights. If you like what we have, why don't you stay in your own country and fight the fight we did for fair wages????

True, sadly too true. The government isn’t going to do something that will cost them 'goodwill' and votes. It’s about reputation, regardless of who they are trying to look good for: Right now its immigrants. There once was a time when they cared more about the nation than the votes, that time is dead now. It died a long time ago. What we need is a revolutionary, a younger president: Someone who believes as we do and won’t care about how the world thinks of them. But that will never come will it? Sadly, sadly, we will be our own end through greed and vanity they will fall. And they will take us with them and let the illegal immigrants stay...

what isnt wrong with illegal immigration first there illegal. They take are hard earning jobs, they dont pay taxes, and us as americans are getting forced to learn spanish and they arent wanting to learn english so now every thing has changed to spanish like street signs, restraunt menues, and phone calls being made to are houses is outragious they just need to stay and leave us americans alone.

It says that Latino's are cutting school, i don't understand the effect of that. I feel latino's have the right to show there support for illegal immagrants, but i think theres a time and place for it. I also feel it is a privaledge to come here, not a right. I feel its ok for immagrants to get in to this country, but not illegally. It is not a crime if they get in legally but when illegal ones are taking legal peoples jobs i think it is pushing the law. In my opinion, a hispanic or latino person has the right to live in our country if they do it legally. from whatever way other than that i don't support it in the least. over 200000 immagrants deported last year is a high number. if they can just be legal citizens then we wouldnt have to worry about illegal immagration or anything of the sort.

Everyone pays taxes!! people who dont know that are ignorant! everyone gets money taken out of their pay checks, but the only difference is that immigrants get no money back at the beginning of the year like everyone else. not only income taxes, but sales, corporate, gas, excise, sin taxes and so many more are paid in everyday expenditures.

Mar 3rd 2008, by Guest
They are illegal when they come take your job and you dont get paid dont say nothing

Apr 7th 2008, by Guest
so what if there illegal there are p;enty good things they do..so some people can just get over thereselfs...cuz would u like 2 starve in mexico?? i didnt think so..

We were just lucky we were born in America otherwise we would be the ones immigrating over here and then they would be complaining. Imagine how annoying that would be to have people telling you to go back to your own country when everyone around you fill your head with thoughts of how great America is. It's not right that we take this land away from them. It's all one world anyways, Earth. We should be able to go where we want, when we want, at the cost of the airlines that aren't taking away land. But will anybody list some positive things about illegal immigration because I need some for an essay I have to write and so far haven't found any.

May 14th 2008, by Guest
Oh,Please... Spare me and don't try to analogize this with religion. this has nothing to do with religion at all. This has to do with the fact that these people are coming here against our laws and are basically being patted on the back for it. It's illegal not to mention immoral for this to happen. I am not striking out at your beliefs, (since i am also a Christian) but what i don't buy is trying to wash away this problem that is obviously troubling America and needs top be solved through religion. Now, thanks for reading and i gots to write an essay on this so thanks.
