Looking for the American Dream? Follow the Rules.

Here we are land of the free, the land we love – built into what it is by, well, immigrants.
Many seem to forget that, we, as Americans took this land from the true Americans – the Indians. That, however, is a completely different issue…

There was Plymouth Rock to Ellis Island. Thousands, upon thousands, upon thousands sailed here, looking for what we call “the American Dream.” They got it, because they built it. We’ve fought many battles for this land that we love – and we, unfortunately, will fight many more. In the history of America; our fore fathers have established States and Commonwealths, a government of democracy, laws that are to be followed, and, the best part - our freedom.

Has anyone ever thought of this? We live in a land built by immigrants that is now the super power of the world…WOW!

This said, I Love the Good Ol’ U.S. of A. If immigrants want to come to my country, that’s fine…that’s great… I don’t care if your Mexican, Chinese, African – whatever your nationality, or your color, or your beliefs, I welcome you with open arms – on certain conditions.

I believe that what needs to be done about this ever evolving issue of Illegal Immigration are the following:
1.) if you want to live in my country – you must apply, and be approved, for a citizenship in my country – not live as an illegal;
2.) you must follow and abide by this land’s laws – no more “slap’s on the wrist” if you disobey our laws;
3.) you need to pay taxes just the same as I do. I recently spoke with a woman from India. She was planning a one month trip to India to visit her family. It was explained to me that as long as she went home, once a year, she did not have to pay our taxes! I was appalled. Will the government cut me a break if I visit Poland, Italy and Europe once every year too?
4.) no more free health insurance. I honestly believe that your free healthcare is why I pay an outrageous cost to provide healthcare for my family, you should pay the same as I do;
5.) please, learn to speak our language – English. I should not be forced to learn yours. If I moved, to say, China – I would learn to speak Chinese. It is only common courtesy;
6.) American companies and corporations need to stop giving jobs to illegal’s. I don’t want to hear that no one in the United States wants these jobs… they are not looking in the right places. What about our homeless, our families who have “lost everything” and only want to be sure their children aren’t starving, what about ex-criminals who have just gotten off their term in jail or prison – they need a way to survive and be responsible too. American companies and corporations are looking to illegal’s because they’ll take less pay and work twice as hard…given my previous statement, is this really true. Wouldn’t some of our poverty-stricken citizens like to have a chance at these jobs? These companies need to be fined, as they, too, are breaking the law.
7.) why are there ‘Sanctuary’ cities? We may as well hand out “get out of jail free” cards at the border… Stop harboring and protecting illegal’s.

I’m sorry, but if you don’t or won't abide by any of my above recommendations – you need to be deported. That’s final…there, I said it, “you need to be deported.” You NEED to become an American citizen; you MUST abide by our laws – or pay the consequences; You NEED to pay taxes; NO more FREE hand-outs; and, for the companies and corporations, STOP hiring illegal’s. STOP sanctuary cities.

Here’s an interesting twist … how many illegal’s are in this land of the free, literally, whom are not considered illegal? I recently saw a report on a popular 24/7 news channel where a Senator was standing in front of the heart of our country, the White House, explaining to the news reporter that he “could walk about eight blocks to the north, and purchase a Social Security number for $80.” If a Senator knows this, then certainly the illegal’s do! Another interesting question – if a Senator knows this, then what is the real game play here? Wouldn’t you think it would be “shut-down” so to speak? How many of these little operations are there in the United States? Imagine, making lots of money selling Social Security number’s at $80 a piece.

Now there’s an American Dream for you to hold on to.

Good article, well spoken, agree 100%. But we also need to stop giving out citizenship to babies born to illegal mothers. For one thing the maternity load has got so great at Hospitals close to the southern border, they can no longer continue to provide delivery service, their budgets will not take the free deliveries being provided to illegal mothers who look forward to an anchor baby.
So this has hurt maternity coverage for US mothers in these towns...

I'd have to agree 100% with you as well. I hate when people call me racist when I say I'm not for the "illegal immigration" thing. Honestly, I don't care what race you are. It IS just common courtesy to abide by our rules, just like I would if I went to another country.

wiht out illegal immigranta USA will not be same with out them, because they do JOBS that other people dont want to do ("AmericanS"). they have to learn the hard way because of the descrimination that us as Americans gives them. we are kind of selfish because we are only thinking about us we are not thinking about all the hard work that they do.
they only come to America to WORK, they are not criminals..!!
they just want a better life for them and their children.

im with you if your going to go to another country make it legal not illegal thats all we ask

Immigration is ok but if you are getting free health care, not paying taxes, and aren’t even speaking English then you should not have the right to be in this country, you should not have the right to enjoy the liberties that I do without having to pay any of the consequences.

I agree completely. Illegal immigrants need to go through the steps to gain citizenship. I also agree that the government should not give them tax breaks and yes they should as well pay for thier own health insurance. They are here taking jobs anyway, they can pay for or struggle to pay for it like everyother American in this country. There are no free rides in this country; immigrants are no exception to theses rules. Like this article said, America is made up of immigrants, just because we were born here and they weren't doesn't mean they get to ride the pitty train and get everything free!

This article reflects my opinions completly, I'm tired of hearing people say that the illegals do the jobs we "don't want to do". I can tell you this much, a friend of mine applied for a job as a dish washer. It fit his schedual perfectly and he was really excited about it. If you haven't guessed, they told him that there was another who fit the job better for them. Turns out it was an illegal who agreed to work for less. That's ridiculous! We need these jobs, resources, etc, that they are using up ILLEGALY. Something needs to be done.

I agree with some points of this article. But i disagree with others. Like when u stated that the immigrants built this country and made it the way it is. That is completly false. They might have built some parts of the counrty but they did nothing to make it to what it is today. You can build a building but it doesnt be come a buissness untill someone runs it.

Just as the author of this article stated, many people worked hard to make our country what it is today. It took tremendous amounts of sacrifice, so why can't an immigrant take the time to come here legally. They say they come here for a better life, but they should still have to work hard for that better life. We can't hand it to them on a silver platter. Why do we have to pay for them to live here?

Oct 10th 2007, by Guest
I completely agree. It's absolutely ridiculous how we all have to pay higher taxes for these people that shouldn't even be here. These people aren't part of my family... I shouldn't have to pay for their flu shots and whatever else they get for free. We all have to pay to be here, so should they.

I agree with the begining of the article we are all humans, we all deserve the same thing, no matter what someones beliefs are or nationality is, it shouldnt matter. I would rather have peace then be at war all the time.

First off, I agree with the author of this article. I have read the comments that follows it. I get tired of the comment that illegal invaders do the job that Americans will not do. That is only part of the story, here is the rest of the story. Employers, especially farmers pay very little to these illegal invaders. They like that. They can hold the cost of lettuce down which makes everyone happy. The rest of the cost of that lettuce we pay for through social services, free medical, and all the other benefits payed to these people because of all under market wage they get. The thing is the farmer gets by as cheaply as he can while we make up the rest of the wage through programs used by his employees. That's why Americans will not do the work unless a FAIR wage is paid that does not require them to seek Social Services support to subsidize it.. Next time ya smack your lips over that cheap head of lettuce, think about how much you are REALLY paying for it..

i agree, if they are not doing as we do, then they are not but a dead wieght on our economy. if they can't do as we do or don't want to, then they obviously don't want to be here that badly and need to go home. it is pathetic that we should pay for them so they can basically live here for free. it's funny really, the government can find a cow that was born in michigan and trace it to her stall in new mexico and then trace her calfs to their stalls, but they can't find the some thousand illegal immigrants in our country. we should give them all a cow.

o.k first with all the respect, i don't agree with the writter at all. you say that you guys are giving immmigrants all those rules and laws but you are not really giving any oportunities realy to get them done and, or to even succeed in our country. that's reality. "pay taxes like i do" seriously... try to speak based on reality. there aren't many jobs that are want people working that are from any other country and that are actually trying to succeed like i said a while ago. "American companies and corporations are looking to illegal’s because they’ll take less pay and work twice as hard" you are contradicting yourself here because you say that the homeless, and people that just came out of jail are trying to succeed. well let me tell you if they were trying to do so they would of been the once to accept those jobs! i guess they wouldn't realy like to have a chance at those jobs... when on the other hand illegal immigrants aren't braging about how much they get payed but instead they say "well, at least i have a job." and as to the people giving the jobs i don't think that we should call it "breaking the law" because i think they are actually leting illegal immigrants to succeed in thiis country.and let me tell you, sanctuary cities are not protecting illegal immigrants but they're helping them out and giving oppportunities. and well if thats what you want to live without illegal immigrants then deport them all just like you said. but i relly wonder what will everyone do without them? i guess you would be the firs candidate to take over the jobs that they'd leave behind. i hope you do them right and work as hard as they did to actually feel that you deserve th paysheck for all that "hard work." all they are really looking for is a better life for them and their families. seariously think about it! that's all i have to say.

3. I agree with this that they should get paper and come here legally and learn English. But I also belief that it is not easy to get papers it might take more then 10 years , so what is left to do.

Mar 3rd 2008, by Guest
I agree completely with this article. My opinions are almost the same. If you come to America, you should come to be an American. You should not come here to live off of those who pay taxes and serve their dedication to the country. It feels unfair and somewhat unconstitutional to give up some rights because we are citizens, but those who aren't, do not.

Mar 3rd 2008, by Guest
I agree that illegal immigrants should not be able to stay in America. What they need to do is go through all of the right steps to become an American citizen.

Mar 3rd 2008, by Guest
I don’t agree with immigrants getting papers because it can take so many years to finish with the whole process, and I know I wouldn’t try that hard to get papers if I could just live illegally.

Mar 3rd 2008, by Guest
with no disrespect i think that most of you people are being ignorant. if America is really the land of the free why do we try to make it impossible to get into the country. i mean the reason they're coming here is because their current situatuion isnt so good. the least America could do is make it easier to get all their papers sorted out.
