Amram, a man of the house of Levi, married another woman of the house of Levi, named Jochebed. Exodus 6:20 And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bare him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and seven years. Exodus 2:1And there was a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 2And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

The reason why she had to hide him was because of Pharoah's order to kill all of the Jewish male babies because he felt threatened by the increased number of Israelites. (Exodus 1:10Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there faileth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.) Exodus 1:22And Pharoah charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive. Jochebed had to do something with Moses because she could no longer hide him safely. Exodus 2:3And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

So, she put Moses into that small ark, similar to that of Noah with the slime and pitch and probably prayed for God's intervention. Exodus 2:4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him. 5And the daughter of Pharoah came down to wash herself at the river; and her handmaidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. 6And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children. Miriam, looking on, would be a channel of blessing for her brother as she intervened on his behalf when the Pharoah's daughter would find him. Exodus 2:7Then said his sister to Pharoah's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee? 8And Pharoah's daugher said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the nurse's mother.

Not only did she get her baby back, she also got paid for nursing him! Exodus 2:9 And Pharoah's daugher said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it. So, Jochebed got paid to take care of Moses! Many say that Jochebed used this time wisely to plant the seeds of Moses' leadership, like how he was a Hebrew, an Israelite, and that they were under cruel bondage as slaves in Egypt, and they were looking for deliverance and a leader. She nursed him with his history, culture, the Word of God, vision for his future leadership, as well as TLC.
