Why do they call the gospel the good news of Jesus Christ?
What is the significance of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
1. Jesus was God. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
2. Jesus was holy; he was without sin. John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? and when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. Luke 23:47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. Mark 15:39 And when the centurioun, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
3. When Jesus died on the cross, he was taking on the sins of the world. John 1:28b "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
4. Why is there death? There is death because of sin. People die because of the problem of sin. When you work, you get paid your wages. When you sin, you get paid your wages-death. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death: but the git of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
5. Why is there sin? There is sin because of the disobedience of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman that God created. They ate of the forbidden fruit, the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. God had told Adam in Genesis 1:16-17, And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Sin entered through their disobedience, and the whole earth has now been plunged into the state of sin. Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.
6. Only Jesus-God could save us from our sin. Only God can take care of our sin problem. Only God can do away with sin into the fiery furnace of hell. Only God can experience our hell and get out it. Only God can be our substitute for sin. Genesis 22:8a And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: God cannot be with sin. God must put sin away into the fire. 1 Corinthians 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness. Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his owns Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh. Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
7. After Jesus died, Jesus descended to hell. He put away with our sins. However, because Jesus was holy-without sin, hell could not keep him captive there. Then, Jesus went to Paradise, to preach to the souls that were there until this time. Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
He set them free. Matthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose. 53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy ciry, and appeared unto many. Jesus rose again! Luke 24:6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Thus, the death. the burial. and the resurrection of Jesus Christ is your proof that Jesus is the messiah.
1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures: 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
JESUS IS YOUR MESSIAH:
Matthew 27:37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Mark 15:26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Luke 23:38And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
John 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Psalm 22 is the death of Jesus.
Psalm 23 is the burial of Jesus.
Psalm 24 is the resurrection of Jesus.
About the Author
"In a little while, we'll be with the Father..." 1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of teh Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of teh Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpte shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 52For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
