At 57 years old, I had smoked sense the age of 15. I had quit twice before, once for a little over a year and the second time a little over two years. I have to say I love smoking. I like the taste, I like the aroma and the relaxing effect. I LIKED IT.
Cost, health worries and family were the reasons for quiting. I did it cold turkey each time. I didn't pay for all those high cost helper thingys. One thing I did do was con myself and it worked each time to greatly reduce my cravings for a smoke.
Every time I felt like a smoke, I would talk to myself, firmly lying to myself saying "You have NEVER smoked", "YOU don't smoke." And an odd thing happened, the cravings would
almost immediately leave. The cravings became further and further apart.
I did not think of this myself really, I worked for 18 years in the Mental Health Div of my state in direct services to the community. A Psychologist and I often talked about how false memories get established in the brain and ways of manipulating the brain to think the way you want it through affirmations.
The trick is to not think about smoking in the past, that only reinforces that behavior.
When the physical urge comes on. Quickly affirm to yourself by Saying " What is wrong with you, YOU Never Smoked." Or "I don't smoke".
It only took me about a week (7) days to not crave having a smoke. I would not crave a cigarette but for some reason my hand would fly up to my shirt pocket looking for one , Habit I guess, all cravings and the hand thing stopped after about 20 days. Every time I would even think about a cigarette I would tell myself I didn't smoke and never have .
Try it, it cost nothing to try.
PS. My last smoke was in 2004. I used the money to buy some neat toys.....

Thanks!!!! IT WORKED just like you said. I have used everything and failed. I can't believe that lying to yourself that you never smoked would actually lead to believing it!!!! Thanks again!!!
