When gas goes over $10 per gal, what then?

As gas prices continue to climb, we need to rethink what type of vehicles we allow on our roads... If things do not change quickly we will need to take a look at allowing carriages not unlike those used by the Amish. You know the horse drawn buggy thingy..

Or we may need to look at Tuk Tuks which are like a large 3 wheel tricycle that is enclosed for weather and is usually run with a 2 or 3 cylinder engine.. We have motorcycles already on the road and the number is growing quickly with the rising gas prices..

I have been playing with the idea of building a small 4 wheel vehicle that is
enclosed for weather and run it with a 2 cylinder motorcycle engine of about 350cc which for commuting out here in the country on a 10 mile radius of home should work quite well..

As it stands, the US has very strict vehicle codes that preclude this.. As gas prices go to $10 or more per gallon you can bet people are going to improvise as they did in Europe during WW2 using wood gas generators to supply a combustible gas for use in a gasoline engine.. (Look up Wood gas Generator in Goggle) These work well with older style engines up to 1970s era. You can bet old cars of this vintage will become hot items for conversion.

A lot of people who have 10 mile areas to travel will build their own battery powered
vehicle from small compacts, watch and see.. The new hybrid cars are way to expensive
and with the cost of all items we need to live on rising with the fuel price no money will be left to buy them if and when they do come available.. So people will make do with what they can as they have always done..

What kinds of vehicles do you see us starting to use?

You know this article is scary because the writer is right on the money with what it will be like shortly. At $1 a gallon we didn't think we would ever see gas go to $2 a gallon. Now look at us at $4 a gallon and predicted by this time next year it will be $7 a gallon or higher. I guess $10 a gallon is not that far off as I thought. What do horse drawn buggies cost now days anyway?
